Lira Resident Conductor, Mina Zikri, once again spent his summer touring with Daniel Barenboim's West-Eastern Divan Orchestra. Here he is pictured with His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI, alongside Italian President Giorgio Napolitano and Maestro Daniel Barenboim. The West-Eastern Divan Orchestra performed in Castel Gandolfo to mark His Holiness’ saint day on July 11th, 2012.

Below are two photos of volunteer teachers at the Kosciuszko Foundation’s Arts Enriched English Language Camp near the city of Wielun in Poland this past summer.  Lira’s stage and technical director, Thomas Rusnak, has been volunteering for the Teaching English in Poland Program for the past 8 years and is now Lead Teacher and Lira’s super-volunteer Mary Rita Mitchell has volunteered for the Kosciuszko Foundation program for the past two years.  Both are on the left in the top photos, wearing blue tops.  All of us at Lira are very proud of Tom and Mary Rita. Bravo to both of them!

Dear Friends of Lira:

The mission of the Lira Ensemble
is to bring the best of Polish culture into American life.

For more than 40 years Lira has been devoted to presenting Polish song and dance with professionalism, class and dignity to properly represent Polish Americans and Poland.

Over many of those years, you have been our partner through donations that made our work possible, for which we are very grateful. Today, funding from corporations, foundations and government agencies continues to be smaller because the economic recovery is slow, but thanks to your help, the Lira Ensemble is able to continue its work.

And that work must continue because so many Poles came to these shores and helped build the United States into one of the most successful nations on earth. We cannot allow America to be without traces of the culture that those Poles brought with them – especially their wonderful music and dance.

Now, Lira’s work is again expanding – bringing Polish music and dance to more and more Americans. Last fall, we were finally able to return to touring – including a triumphant concert in suburban Detroit. In April, Lira artists gave six performances in Birmingham and Huntington in Alabama through the Birmingham International Center. We have also expanded our tours of Poland for audience members. This year we added a tour especially for children, parents and grandparents. This December, Lira returns to the near western suburbs of Chicago with a magnificent holiday concert at Dominican University in River Forest. We will also take that concert on the road. Do watch your mail or this website for details.

We respectfully ask that you send us a donation to
help Lira continue fulfilling its important mission.

We ask that you be as generous as possible, so that you will be partners in our success.

The Lira Ensemble is a federally-recognized charity, so any amount you give is tax deductible, as stipulated in the Federal Tax Code. We will provide a receipt for tax purposes. Please also consider a gift to Lira when updating your will. It will be an honor to dedicate concerts to your memory or the memory of your family and loved ones.

Sincerely,

Camille Kopielski
